First look at Celine Dion’s $20m Florida water park mansion that boasts slides, bridges and even a lazy river

After Titanic, you’d have thought that Celine Dion would be sick of the sight of water. But it seems she can’t actually get enough of the stuff, as shown by these pictures of the aquatic additions to the multi-million dollar Florida mansion that goes on and on.

The pregnant singer, 42, had the water park constructed on the $20million (£13.9million) home, which she shares with husband Rene Angelil, 68, and their nine-year-old son Rene Charles.

Aqua crazy: Celine Dion’s $20m (£13.9m) beachside Florida mansion has two swimming pools and a lazy river

The lavish pool system uses 500,000 gallons of water and includes two swimming pools, two water slides and a lazy river, which has a slow current to carry bathers around the pool.

Celine, whose signature song is My Heart Will Go On, the theme from the 1998 film Titanic, splashed out several million dollars on the aquatic wonderland at her home, which bought for $12.5million (£8.6million) in 2005.

And if it proves not to be enough water for the singer, who is expecting twins at the end of this year, she can always take a short walk down to the beach, as the house overlooks the Atlantic.

Leisurely: The lazy river, which has a current that takes people slowly along the water

Waterworks: Shown from another angle, the lazy river also boasts a large spiral slide and walkways

The mansion is on Jupiter Island, which is where some of the wealthiest people in the US live, including disgraced golfer Tiger Woods.

Celine’s house, which is is a whopping 9,825 square feet, lies on 5.7acres that contains an underground garage.

The mansion also boasts eight bedrooms split up in two guest rooms, a 460-square feet wardrobe, and a gym in the beach-side cabana.

And while she is probably thrilled to bits with her water-themed back garden, it’s not exactly gone down well with her neighbours.

Fancy a dip? Celine’s huge aqua garden also boasts two swimming pools, one with a poolside bar

According to reports in the States, Celine angered her local community when she used up all the fresh water supply on the island, which led to a drought and water restrictions in the area.

Celine was fined for the massive use of water and in an attempt to appease her neighbours, had six wells constructed on the property to store enough water to keep the pipes pumping the  6.5million gallons needed for the park each year.

But even that hasn’t pacified the locals who, according to the National Enquirer, are furious she was even granted permission to have the wells built.

They are also concerned about the damage her actions will have on the environment, with one angry neighbour saying: ‘I don’t know how she got the well permits. The government is usually pretty restrictive with stuff like that!’

Care for Skin in Spring

Advice From Dunagan, Yates & Alison

With the bright spring sun will come new skin problems, namely “sun damage.” Human skin is very sensitive to the sun and if not protected, brown spots, wrinkles, and dehydration will damage the skin.

The sun activates the skin aging process. In addition, overexposure to the sun can bring chronic damage, which in turn may lead to skin cancer. More than 90 percent of all skin cancer is caused by sun exposure. We are exposed to the sun, directly or indirectly, nearly every day.

In my practice, I often see women with higher hyperpigmentation and more wrinkles on the left side of the face than on the right. These is driver damage. You need to remember that a window does not protect the skin and you may be receiving more sun that you realize.

How can we safely protect the skin, yet get some sun that we all need for good health? Here a few steps that you can take:

  • Do not sunbathe, but try to get a little sun in the early morning or late afternoon.
  • Avoid sun exposure especially between 9a.m.-5p.m., the peak hours for harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
  • When outdoors during time of strong sunshine, use sunscreen rated SPF15 or higher.
  • When you must be exposed to intense sunlight, wear protective clothing such as long pants, long sleeved shirts, broad-brimmed hats and UV-protective sunglasses.

Remember: The most effective treatment for skin problems is prevention!

Should I use the Commercial Spa in the Gym or Hotel? Read this!

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

What about that Health Club or Motel Spa?

Soaking in the hotel spa after an exhausting trip sounds wonderful, right? Relaxing in the health club’s hot tub after a hard workout doesn’t sound bad, either.

Great idea? Well . . . maybe not.

Ask your spa dealer.

We’ve been asking that question of dealers, manufacturers and service people attending swimming pool and spa industry shows for 8 years. So far, we’ve never found anyone in the pool industry personally willing to use a commercial spa! Not one single person! Health inspectors, doctors, dealers, service people — nobody who knows wants to get into a commercial spa!

What’s going on?

When you use a spa, your body releases sweat, body oils, skin cells, and other contaminants into the water. In a well maintained pool, these are ‘oxidized’ by the chlorine.

Unfortunately, a properly maintained commercial 400 gallon spa with 4 ppm chlorine level contains only 1/4 of an ounce of chlorine. This is barely sufficient to deal with the contaminants from even one bather, much less 4 or 5. By comparison, a typical community pool, with the same level of chlorine will contain over 7 pounds of chlorine distributed throughout the pool.

What does this mean? Simply put, a commercial spa does not have enough oxidizing chemicals present to stay ahead of the ‘gunk’ from multiple users. So not only does the gunk remain to produce that cloudy foamy water so familiar to intrepid spa users, it feeds cuties like Psuedomonas areuginosa and Legionella pneumophila. Trust me: you don’t want to get to know these slimies better.

To be fair, it is possible for a facility to maintain a commercial spa. But it is so labor intensive we’ve never even heard of a facility doing it! Skeptical? Check how hard your local hospital works to maintain its therapy spas.

So, next time take a long hot shower instead, and wait till you get home to use the spa!
